Is Artificial Intelligent Art the future of NFTs?

A new wave of artists are using Artificial Intelligence [AI] to create their own artwork, and it's projected to bring new meaning to the NFT space.

AI is one of the most exciting technologies in the current world. It’s already used for everything from self-driving cars to facial recognition software. Now, AI is being applied to other areas as well, including creating music, writing novels, and even painting pictures.

The NFT space is widely known for creating a thriving ecosystem for artists and digital art creators. However, we're seeing a new wave of artists, who are leveraging AI to create their own unique pieces. These AI-generated works are starting to become more mainstream.

But what does that mean? How can we expect AI-generated art to change our relationship with digital art and NFTs? Will it lead to more or less freedom for the artist? And how will it impact the blockchain industry?

We will try to answer these questions by looking at current trends, discussing potential applications, and predicting where this technology might be headed next.

What is AI?

Before we get into the details, let's first understand what exactly AI is. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, which means “the simulation of human intelligence.” In short, it’s a computer program that mimics human thinking.

In practice, AI has been around since the 1950s. But today, AI is everywhere, and its most recent use cases have been in the creative industries.

Professionals like copywriters and graphic designers use AI to improve their work. For example, copywriters and bloggers now use AI tools like Jasper.ai and Copy.ai to improve their content and generate ideas on demand. Similarly, AI tools like Starryai automatically transform text prompts into images using patterns in images and videos in its archive.

AI-generated Art in NFTs

AI-generated art is carving a new genre in the NFT world. Known as "AI generative NFTs," these types of art help both artists and complete amateurs to express themselves through NFTs.

For instance, an artist could collaborate with AI to enhance their creativity. The AI would then take care of the technical aspects of the project, such as generating the image, while the artist focuses on the artistic elements like composition and style, as well as ensuring that the final output meets their standards.

Or someone who doesn't know how to draw, could easily create something beautiful using simple text prompts like "sunset" or "rainbow." This type of art is also great for people who want to share their emotions but don't have the skills to do so. This trend is expected to grow as many NFT collections like Alethea and Altered State Machine is already based on AI generative art.

How Projects Are Using AI

AI in NFTs goes beyond creating artworks from scratch. They also bring to life non-fungible tokens, redefining how we interact with our avatars. For instance, Altered State Machine, a protocol creating smart AI agents through non-fungible intelligence, released a collection called ASM Brains, allowing users to own the code of a unique AI technology.

Each brain was also generated using AI and can learn and evolve with each interaction. Furthermore, they can pair the brains with in-game characters and are compatible with different platforms and metaverse platforms.

Other NFT projects have also incorporated AI into their collection in different ways. For example, Fluf World Thingies is a collection of 10,000 AI-generated NFTs that can create AI art. Imagine owning one of these pieces.

Another notable collection leveraging the power of AI is the AIFA All-Stars collection, featuring 40,000 AI football characters that are trainable by holders. They're also compatible with the Altered State Machine brains, bringing more possibilities to the table.

The Future of AI-generated NFTs

As to how AI-generated art will impact the blockchain industry, it's still too early to tell as there isn't much data available yet. However, AI-generated arts will continue to evolve and will become a major part of the NFT ecosystem. Technology aside, this new art form differs from other NFTs in the space in terms of uniqueness as they're created through algorithms, thus eliminating any possibility of copying or borrowing ideas from another project.

Furthermore, the technology will only get better since it learns from each interaction it has with the creator when creating new art pieces. This way, the AI will be able to learn and adapt to the user's preferences and needs.

As technology evolves, the quality of the art will increase. It will become more realistic and expressive, allowing us to connect even deeper with our digital avatars and different metaverse platforms.

Final Thoughts

Speaking with Cointelegraph, Dr. Alex Alter, an AI scientist at Altered State Machine, stated that AI-generated NFTs appear distinctive and provide individuals with a deeper abstract experience. These NFTs are genuinely one-of-a-kind because there is no one spot in any of the AI works with similar pixels.

"DAOs and chatbots will allow humans to produce AI artwork in the future, which is significantly more than what other NFTs can achieve now," he said.

In addition to the technological advancements, the rise of metaverse platforms will also help push the growth of AI-generated art because it'll allow users to express themselves how they want without needing the help of digital artists.

Since AI-generated arts allow anyone to be creative, it will encourage creativity among those who aren't necessarily skilled in drawing or painting. Furthermore, it'll reduce the barrier of entry for people who aren't familiar with NFTs, leading to mass adoption of the technology by non-crypto natives.
